All Toyota RAV4 Drive Modes


Depending on your RAV4 model, you will have various driving modes to choose from. We’ve written extensively on each driving mode so you have a clear understanding on how and when to use them.

All models include Normal, Sport, and Eco modes.

Normal Mode

The Toyota RAV4 normal mode is the most frequent setting used. It’s designed for everyday driving, giving a perfect balance of efficiency and performance.

Sport Mode

Sport mode has been a feature of every RAV4 model since 2013. It comes standard on all trims.

Eco Mode

Available on all models is the ECO mode, which is designed to be the most fuel-efficient option, perfect for commuting or long trips.

EV Mode

EV mode stands for “electric vehicle mode”, which enables electric-only driving in your RAV4.

Snow Mode

If you drive in winter weather, it’s critical to know how to use the Toyota RAV4’s snow mode. 

Trail Mode

Trail mode is a system that performs integrated control for the AWD, brake, and drive force control systems to assist the drive power on bumpy roads such as a dirt trail.

Mud and Sand Mode

The Mud & Sand mode senses slippage of the wheels and regulates spin.

Rock and Dirt Mode

Rock & Dirt mode is not suitable for normal driving situations. It’s designed to use when driving on a bumpy road, such as an unpaved forest road.

ECO is designed to provide the best fuel economy while driving. It changes the settings for your heating, air conditioning and other features that waste additional fuel. While in ECO mode, the RAV4 becomes less responsive to throttle inputs compared to normal mode.

It’s all scenario dependent. Most people will find they only use Normal and Eco modes (or EV mode if you have that model). Change to Sport mode when you want more power. The other modes are dependent primarily upon various weather conditions and should be used appropriately.

Yes, you will notice a difference when switching between the drive modes. If you switch from normal to ECO, there will be less responsiveness but increased efficiency. Switching to sport changes the accelerator to be more responsive, but it also uses more fuel.
